Steps Repeat
Steps Repeat was created using both 1/4" and 3/8" mild steel rod. I created the skeleton of the sculpture as a 3-step staircase. The concept began as a staircase to nowhere to speak to the frustration of progress made too slowly. I repetitiously bent and rolled a variety of shapes to create the dense surface texture. The balance of intentional pattern and spontaneous randomness hearkens back to childhood doodles and speaks to the tattooing, scarring even, of one’s personal history.
